Today, September 5, 2010, at an official ceremony, Ivelina Vassileva, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Water and Veselin Lichev, the Mayor of Sopot started the second infrastructure project, built with the financial assistance of the European Cohesion Fund, through the Operational Programme Environment.

The facility was officially opened by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Boyko Borissov, the ceremony was attended by the Minister for Management of the EU Funds, Tomislav Donchev.

The grant value of the project "Integrated treatment of the water of Sopot and building of water treatment station for drinking and domestic waste water with water receiving collectors - Stage 1. Sopot WWTP" is BGN 18 million. In addition to the research, design and construction work of the WWTP, the project includes also the construction of a receiving collector and the construction supervision.

The implementation of the project contributes to improving the basic infrastructure not only of the town of Sopot, but also of other settlements within the municipality, simultaneously through observing the requirements of European legislation on waste water treatment. The project also has large social and economic effect - it reduces the unemployment by hiring workers for the upcoming site operation.
