DEPUTY MINISTER VASILEVA PRESENTED THE PROGRESS UNDER OP ‘ENVIRONMENT’ BEFORE THE COMMITTEE ON EUROPEAN AFFAIRS IN THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

Among the main issues were the effects of the measures implemented at the end of 2009 to optimize the project implementation work, the simplification of the procedures, as well as the ways for ensuring good financial management under OPE. The physical implementation of the investment projects in the water sector was presented along with the overall financial implementation under the three priority axes – funds contracted, verified and paid to the beneficiaries. From 1 October 2009 onwards payments have been executed amounting to over BGN 60 million from a total of BGN 126 million, paid under the programme.

The deputy minister acquainted the members of the Committee on European Affairs and Oversight of the European Funds with the results from the ongoing communication with beneficiaries established by means of training sessions throughout the country, regular monthly meetings in the water and waste sectors, as well as the results from OPE reception days for beneficiaries with signed contracts. The beneficiaries were given a questionnaire to evaluate the usefulness and to measure the satisfaction with the training, which was assessed as excellent by 90% of the participants. The opportunity to exchange valuable experience, the acquisition of successful practices and the solving of specific practical cases was considered to be of greatest benefit.
