The Managing Authority of OP ‘Environment 2007-2013’ carried out trainings for the beneficiaries under the programme. The seminars were held for a period of two weeks in Blagoevgrad, Varna, Veliko Turnovo, Montana, Plovdiv and Yambol.

The trainings were organized in three modules each – presenting the corrective measures undertaken in response to the European Commission recommendations regarding the projects selection – high quality projects, which are efficient and strategically sustainable, and the requirements for the project proposals, which are being prepared for funding under the programme. During the second and third day a practical training was conducted for reporting of the project implementation; practical cases, which have arisen in the project implementation process, were examined; the most common problems and difficulties related to public procurement procedures were also presented.

The training sessions were attended by over 250 representatives of 100 municipalities – almost 2/3 of the beneficiaries in the waste and water sectors. The most common questions were related to the results of the water projects screening, as well as to the deadlines for coordinating the public procurement documentation. The beneficiaries were given a questionnaire to evaluate the usefulness and to measure the satisfaction with the training, which was assessed as excellent by 90% of the participants. The experts pointed out that the opportunity to exchange valuable experience, the acquisition of successful practices and the solving of specific practical cases have proved of greatest benefit to the participants.

The next training sessions are going to take place in the period May – June in Sofia. At the same time the regular meetings with municipalities concerning the preparation of investment projects under OPE will begin.
