Partnership is the key to implementing successful European projects; that was the message of Deputy Minister Ivelina Vassileva's opening address to members of the Bulgarian Association of Municipal
Environmental Experts (BAMEE).

The Deputy Minister of Environment and Water, and Mrs. Malina Kroumova, acting Director of Cohesion Policy for Environment Directorate (Managing Authority of OPE) took part in a session of the BAMEE ХХХІІІ Assembly held in Plovdiv.

Simplified procedures, reduced time periods and transparency of selection and management of OPE funded projects are priorities for the new leadership of the Ministry of Environment and Water, said Deputy Minister Vassileva.

The issues that attracted the greatest attention of the audience were those of building of infrastructure in the water and waste sectors. Mrs. Krumova presented a new mechanism for infrastructure development in waste management, and also a new vision for selection of water projects.

According to the National Waste Management Programme, the new mechanism refers to 23 regional systems for waste management, specified in it as follows: Botevgrad, Burgas, Byala, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Vidin, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Kostenets, Kostinbrod, Kocherinovo, Levski, Lukovit, Malko Tarnovo, Pazardzhik, Panagyurishte, Pernik, Pleven, Provadia, Razlog, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Yambol. Those municipalities will apply under procedures for direct award of OPE grants.
