On the 16th of March in Kalkas Quarter a ceremony shall be held for the start of the construction of sewerage system in the city. The project is financed by the Operational Programme Environment and the Cohesion Fund of European Union and its total amount is 35 mln. lv. - the OP Environment granting is 33,5 mln. lv. The project is for construction of collectors and sewerage system, which will serve over 40 000 people in the quarters Kalkas, Levski, Iztok and Tsarkva.

The Municipality of Pernik has one more project approved for eurofinancing - Technical Assistance for preparation of investment project in the Waste sector, as well as two contracts financed by ISPA - one for Technical Assistance for preparation of Water sector projects - Group B - Veliko Tarnovo, Kardzhali, Pernik, Vidin, Plovdiv, Dobrich and Yambol, which sets the basis for a longterm investment programme for subsequent financing under OPE; the second contract is for Technical Assistance for preparation of integrated water projects for Pernik and Vidin - improvement of the water and sewerage system of Pernik for subsequent financing under OPE.

Yesterday, the 12th of March, in the Pernik Regional Administration a meeting was held with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Environment and Water, Mr. Chavdar Georgiev, the Head of the Managing Authority of OPE, councillor in the Deputy Prime Minister's cabinet, representatives of the Regional Administration, mayors of municipalities in the region, representatives of the Natural Parks and Forestry Directorates and journalists. A discussion was held about the projects of the municipalities, approved for financing under OPE, the possibilities for public-private partnership, avoiding double financing, etc.
