MINISTER NONA KARADZHOVA SIGNS A CONTRACT FOR INFRASTRUCTURE OF WATER SUPPLY AND SEWERAGE NETWORK IN BURGAS

The Minister of Environment and Water Nona Karadzhova and the Mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov signed a contract for grant for an integrated project to improve and develop the infrastructure for water supply and sewerage network for the neighborhoods Banevo, Vetretz and Mineral Baths in Burgas. The project is Worth nearly 30 MBGN and is funded by Operational programme “Environment 2007 – 2013”.

“With the implementation of the projects funded by OPE, the municipality of Burgas is ensuring infrastructure for 50 years ahead. By signing the project the values of the invested funds by OPE in the municipality of Burgas reaches 120 MBGN. This is yet another example that when the municipality works well, and the absorption of European Funds is at a good level, and is accompanied by a significant social and economic impact” said Minister Nona Karadzhova on the signing ceremony.

The project includes construction of a new waste water treatment plant with a capacity of 1559 m3 daily, and will serve the neighborhoods Vetren, Banevo and villa zone “Mineralni bani”. There will be constructed about 46 km total of domestic sewerage system and 9 km of rain sewers. Our aim is by newly build facilities to reduce losses of water and to increase the share of population connected to the municipality sewerage system.

During her visit in Burgas Minister Nona Karadzhova and Deputy Minister Ivelina Vasileva attended the opening of a seminar for the “Problems in the absorption of EU funds and ways for their solution”. The seminar was organized by Chamber of Builders in Bulgaria initiated by the Minister of Environment and Water.
