MINISTER NONA KARADZHOVA SIGNS THREE CONTRACTS FOR GRANT AWARD WITH BYALA SLATINA, BYALA AND ISPERIH MUNICIPALITIES

Minister Nona Karadzhova and the mayors of Byala Slatina, Byala (Varna) and Isperih today signed three grant contracts for construction and reconstruction of water supply system and sewerage system of the municipalities. Projects are financed under OP” Environment 2007 – 2013” and are of the total amount of 87 million leva (Byala Slatina 26 million leva; Byala 13 million leva; Isperih 48 million leva).

The main goal of signed project proposals is to improve the ecological status of municipalities by modernization of the infrastructure for drinking water and compliance with European legislation, through construction and reconstruction of water infrastructure. The three municipalities will be built 40km. water and 108km sewage systems in total. In conversation with the representatives from the municipalities Minister Nona Karadzhova emphasized the importance of the rapid preparation of tender documents for beneficiaries to start the construction on the projects as soon as possible. “Increased efficiency of urban water supply system will contribute to water conservation and though completion of the existing sewage system the number of connected households in the municipalities will be increased. The construction of new infrastructure has benefits for both population and business development in the regions”, said Minister Karadzhova.

With the envisaged investment measures in the project of Isperih it is set to achieve reduction in losses of drinking water to 41 % (current level 58%) i.e. optimization of losses by 30%. The modernization of WWTP by building a biological stage will provide treatment of domestic and industrial waste water in order to achieve parameters meeting the requirements of the environmental legislation. The mayor noted that this is the most important investment that has been made in the region for 25 years now. By now OP “Environment 2007 – 2013” have paid over 349 million leva in the “ Water” sector, or over 14% from the funds of the sector.
