Minister of Environment and Water Nona Karadzhova and the mayor of Bansko Georgi Ikonomov signed a contract for a grant for an integrated project to improve and develop the infrastructure for water supply and sewage of the city. Its value is 89.5 MBGN and is funded by the Operational Programme "Environment 2007-2013".

Under the project is pending construction of a new WWTP with capacity of 30 000 PE, which will provide sewage treatment for permanent residents of the town and the tourist track. "Thanks to the construction of sewage treatment plant in the city will stop discharging dump raw sewage into the Glanze River and the river basin areas of Mesta River, which is the border river. Following the completion and upgrading of sewerage and water supply of existing networks is expected to reduce losses of water supply which are now about 42% and improve its quality ", said Minister Karadzhova, signing the contract. "Improving water infrastructure is a prerequisite to create new jobs, improve living environment in the territory of Bansko and not least to increase investment activity in the region," added the Minister.

During her visit to Bansko, Minister Nona Karadzhova opened green summer school. It involves students and teachers from ten schools in the country - members of Youth Water Parliament, as well as experts from the Basin Directorates and National Park "Pirin" to MOEW. The training of young environmentalists is titled "Thinking about the waters of Pirin".
