9 MBGN IS THE VALUE OF THE FUTURE REGIONAL SYSTEM FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT IN THE REGION KOSTENEC (SAMOKOV)

9 MBGN is the value of the project for construction of the regional system for waste management in the region Kostenets (Samokov). The contract for the provision of grant was signed today by the Minister of Environment and Water Ms. Nona Karadzhova and mayor of Samokov Vladimir Georgiev. The project is funded by the Operational Programme "Environment 2007 - 2013.”

One of the aims set in the project is to establish an efficient and environmentally suitable system of modern waste management for municipalities Kostenets, Dolna Banya, Ihtiman and Samokov. On the territory of these settlements the existing landfills will be closed. The installation and exploitation of these landfills are very low and don't meet the current practices or requirements of bulgarian legislation.

"Building the regional system of waste management will limit and reduce the adverse environmental impact caused by the generated dumpsites, will increase the amount of recycled and recovered waste and will improve the organization of separation, the temporary storage, waste collection and transportation" said Minister Karadzhova to the guests. Minister Karadzhova congratulated the mayors of the municipalities included in the Regional Association for Waste Management - Kostenets, Dolna Banya, Ihtiman and Samokov for the good cooperation between them and wished the project to be completed on time and in accordance with the schedule of tender procedures and construction.

In the regional system of waste management are included at this stage a Cell for non-hazardous waste, reception center for large waste, system for gas capture, waste separation installation and composting installation of "green" waste.

Under priority axis 2 "Improvement and development of waste treatment" from the beginning of the program up to now are contracted totaling over 428 MBGN or 60% of Axis 2 budget and are paid 72 MBGN (10.5% of the budget of axis 2).
