The Minister of Environment and Water Nona Karadzhova has signed contracts for the construction of water infrastructure in Radomir and Levski.
The Municipality of Radomir will pour BGN 80 million in the reconstruction of 52-km long sewerage system and 38-km long water main, the construction of 6 km of new sewerage system and waste water treatment plants. The project should be completed by the end of 2014.
The Municipality of Levski will invest a total of BGN 43.7 million. The funds will be used for the construction of a waste water treatment plant and the completion of a sewerage and water pipe network. This will improve the ecological infrastructure in the region and will reduce the pollution of the river Osum, which is part of the national NATURA 2000 network. Construction works should be completed by mid-2014.

The two municipalities are applying under a combined procedure, intended for beneficiaries with weaker preparation. There are four additional contracts signed under the same procedure with the municipalities of Razlog, Chirpan, Aitos and Dryanovo. Another 15 project proposals for a total value of BGN 105 million of Tutrakan, Dulovo, Razgrad, Burgas (Meden Rudnik district and Sarafovo district), Nova Zagora, Pazardzhik, Elhovo, Varna (Zlatni Pyasatzi disctrict), Blachik (town and Albena resort), Ihtiman, Popovo, Elin Pelin and Smolyan are in the evaluation phase.

Another ongoing procedure in the water sector for municipalities with ready water and sewerage system projects accounts for 10 project proposals worth a total of BGN 170 million of Tryavna, Sofia Municipality, Tervel, Kozlodui, Knezha, Pirdop, Sredetz, Hisarya, Krichim and Peshtera, which are now being evaluated.

The total investment value of the projects under the two procedures amounts to around BGN 900 million. They should be implemented by the end of 2014.
