FIRST CHESTNUT FESTIVAL WAS HELD IN KOLAROVO VILLAGE, MUNICIPALITY OF PETRICH

The first Chestnut Festival in Natural Park "Belasitsa" was held in the village Kolarovo, Municiplaity Petrich. The event is part of the project planned activities for the development of a management plan of the National Park "Belasitsa". The project value is MBGN 1.161 and it is funded by the Operational Programme "Environment 2007-2013".

The main topic of the event was chestnuts, but besides them, was presented more interesting facts about the rituals, legends and plants in Belasitsa to the festival guests. The eight villages in Podgorieto – Belasitsa, Kolarovo, Samuilovo, Kamena, Yavornitsa, Klyutch, Skrat and Gabrene, participated in the festival with their own tents, where traditional dishes were lined, vegetables and fruits, chestnut honey, typical costumes and accessories. Admirers of mountain and chestnut forests walked the tourist route "The life of chestnut".

The project aims to protect and maintain the biological and landscape diversity of the natural park "Belasitsa". Within the framework, it will be carried out detailed research and analysis of abiotic and biotic characteristics of Belasitsa, population and demographic characteristics, settlement network, technical infrastructure, forestry, fishing, hunting, gathering of natural products, tourism and sports, water consumption, current use of adjacent areas, cultural and historical heritage and others. It will be evaluated the state of the environment.

Based on collected scientific data from the project, it will be prepared management plan for Natural Park “Belasitsa”. It will include planned activities within the park for 10 years and it will be the main management tool.
