MINISTER NONA KARADZHOVA SIGNED A CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF WATER INFRASTRUCTURE IN SILISTRA MUNICIPALITY

Today the Minister of Environment and Water Nona Karadzhova and the Mayor of Silistra, Dr. Julian Naydenov signed a contract for the provision of grants for the construction of regional sewage treatment plant, completion of the sewerage network and reconstruction of the water supply network in Silistra. The project is funded by Operational Programme “Environment 2007 – 2013” and it’s worth MBGN 72.5.

Around 46 000 people in the Municipality of Silistra will be covert by the project, so all the waste water from Silistra, Aydemir and Kalipetrovo will be going in the sewage treatment plant. During the signing ceremony Minister Nona Karadzhova noted that “this project is part of Danube protection strategy of the Black Sea. Remarkable achievement is that around 200 tons of nitrogen and phosphorus will be removed annually and won’t flow into Danube River. With the implementation of the project it will be provided a modern infrastructure that will benefit the population and the economy of the town of Silistra”.

“This is the largest project that the municipality will implement. We hope that with it will improve the quality of life for residents and guests and will also reduce the disbalance between the investor interests and the existing water infrastructure” said the Mayor of Silistra, D-r Julian Naydenov.

In the Danube region are contracted projects within “Environment 2007 – 2013” totaling over MBGN 381 and are made payments for over MBGN 64. For improvement and development of infrastructure for water and waste water in cities with over 2000 P. E. and settlements below 2000 P. E. within urban agglomeration areas are negotiated over MBGN 145. For preparation and implementation of project for the improvement and development of water infrastructure for agglomeration with more than 10 000 P. E., municipalities Levski and Tutrakan have negotiated over MBGN 43.
