Minister of Environment and Water Nona Karadzhova, officially started the construction work on the project for water cycle in Kozloduy. Along with the mayor of the Municipality of Kozloduy – Rumen Manoev they made the first sod of the largest project, which is run by Kozloduy. The project is funded by Operational Programme “Environment 2007 – 2013” and it’s worth about MBGN 27.

With the implementation of the project activities over 13 000 permanent residents of the city, will be provided with sewerage and water supply networks. “I hope that with the successful implementation of the project the city will have more European look. There will be constructed over 10 km sewerage network and more than 9 km water supply network with accompanying facilities and building deviations. It doesn’t sounds a lot, but it is a subject of a hard future work” said the Mayor of Kozloduy. In addition, he thanked the team, that has been working on the project and expressed his hopes, that all of the administrative, local and central authorities will work in one direction.

The project envisages construction of treatment plant, which will solve the problem with disposal of waste water into Danube River.

“From a strategic point of view, this investment will provide fundamental city infrastructure in the field of environment for years to come” – said Minister Karazhova in front of guests and residents of the city. This is an investment with undeniable ecological impact, because it will not only solve the problem with disposal of waste water in Danube River, but will also contribute for the cleanliness of the region”. Minister added that this is a project with a significant social impact, because that infrastructure would be impossible to carry out with the water supply fees. Last but, not least she highlighted the importance of the investment from the business environment point of view. “Where there is no such infrastructure the business will be reserved for investment in the region”.

The project of the Municipality of Kozloduy is part of the Danube strategy. Currently three more cities on the Danube (Nikopol, Tutrakan and Silistra) are  implementing projects in the water sector financed by Operational Programme “Environment 2007 – 2013” totaling MBGN 145.
