The mayor of Kazanluk Stephan Damyanov and representatives of the Managing Authority of Operational Programme Environment held a groundbreaking ceremony for two sites under a project of Kazanluk Municipality - construction of sewerage system, reconstruction of water pipe and road network of Hristo Botev district and construction of sewerage pumping station and push tug, village of Ovoshtnik. The project is worth a total of BGN 4 713 848, provided by the EU Cohesion Fund through the Operational Programme Environment, the state budget and the municipality.
The implementation of the project resulted in the construction of 3,387 km long sewerage system and 3,269 km-long water pipe network in Hristo Botev District. The urban waste water of the district is now led to the existing waste water treatment plant of the town of Kazanluk.
The project site in the village of Ovoshtnik has a significant ecological impact apart from its social importance. Through the implementation of the project, the waste water from the sewerage system of the village has been led to the waste water treatment plant of Kazanluk, stopping the discharge of the waste water into river Tundzha and the pollution of this region, which is considered the water supply zone of the city of Stara Zagora.

The two sites comprise the first stage of the integrated water project of the Municipality of Kazanluk. Next stages will include reconstruction of the urban waste water treatment plant of Kazanluk and the construction of a main sewerage collector Shipka - Kazanluk and internal sewerage system of Shipka, distribution sewerage networks of the villages of Sheinovo, Hadzhi Dimitrovo, Krun.
