The Deputy Minister outlined the progress of the programme, talked about upcoming procedures in 2011, as well as the priorities of the Ministry of Environment and Water in sector "Environment" for the period 2014-2020. At present, Operational Programme Environment sees the implementation of contracts worth a total of BGN 1 198 278 873 or 34% of the programme budget. Executed payments stand at BGN 274 million or 7.78% of the OPE budget.

The following key priorities are being discussed for inclusion in the next programme phase: continuing infrastructural project investments in the water sector, in order to ensure better water suuply and sewerage services, as well as better quality of life for the population, to reduce water losses, to decrease and prevent the consequences from climate change and to ensure sustainable policy for improving the air quality. There are also ongoing discussions on project concepts, which are to be drawn up during the current programme period and submitted for financing in the period 2014-2020, related to sustainable public transport systems, use of alternative energy sources, improvement of the air quality and elimination of the noxious gas emissions.

The fair was officially opened by the Minister of EU Funds Management Tomislav Donchev. The event was attended by Her Excellency Judith Lang, Hungary's Ambassodor to Bulgaria, Zinaida Zlatanova, Head of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria, deputy-ministers and other official guests.

The organiser is the Bulgaria Economic Forum.

The fair will run until Sunday, May 15, 2011. Interested citizens will have the opportunity to receive information on Operational Programme Environment from representatives of the Managing Authority in pavilion No 4 at the Southern terrace of the National Palace of Culture.
