PROJECT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF WATER SUPPLY AND SEWERAGE SYSTEM IN BLAGOEVGRAD REACHES FINAL PHASE

The mayor of Blagoevgrad Kostadin Paskalev and the Chairman of the Municipal Council Kostadin Hadzhigaev held a ground-breaking ceremony for the project for construction and modernisation of the water supply and sewerage network in the IV micro-region of Blagoevgrad. This is the last phase of a major project for modernising the water infrastructure in the city. The project is worth a total of BGN 21.5 million, 14.5 million of which are provided by the EU Cohesion Fund through Operational Programme Environment.

Construction works will continue for five months. Project contractor is Obedinenie GBS BL/IS.

To the present point, a sewerage pumping station was constructed under the project and nearly 14 km of water pipes and 13 km of sewerage system were reconstructed in other three districts of Blagoevgrad - Strumsko, Gramada and Balarbashi.

The Mayor Paskalev said that thanks to the implementation of the project the whole city will soon have a modern water supply and sewerage system. He spoke of the beneficial cooperation with Operational Porgramme Environment and added that the Municipality will apply with more project proposals.

The implementation of the project investment will improve the waste water treatment, reduce water losses along the water supply and sewerage network and subsequently lower the costs of households. Waste water from the four districts of the city will be discharged into a main sewerage collector and then led to the newly constructed pumping station. This improves the possibilities for achieving a full and efficient management of the water cycle of Blagoevgrad.
