Minister of Environment and Water Mrs. Iskra Mihaylova and the Mayor of Stara Zagora Mr. Zhivko Todorov  took part in the ceremony for first sod of the construction of water supply infrastructure in Stara Zagora. The project’s “Integrated project for Stara Zagora” total amount isMBGN 40, 3 and it is funded by Operational programme “Environment 2007 – 2013” (OPE).

At the ceremony Mrs. Mihaylova stated that, this is one of the largest and successful OPE’s  projects and shows in clear dimensions how European Union grant financial aid can reach every Bulgarian citizen and improve the quality of life. Minister Mihaylova congratulated the Mayor of the municipality and the team who prepared and defended the project, and added that the Ministry will give maximum cooperation for its successful implementation.

In turn, the Mayor Zhivko Todorov said that with this project will be completed the entire water cycle of Stara Zagora. By year’s end all the issues related with water supply and sewerage in Stara Zagora will be solved. He added that the project will create condition for new investments, this in turn will enhance the population welfare. Mr. Todorov called on the contractor to finish the project properly and on time.

Under the project will be constructed, rehabilitated and modernized around 27 km. sewerage network and will be reconstructed over 2 km. water supply network. These activities will cover the territory of Stara Zagora and the surrounding villages.

For its integrated water cycle project, Municipallity Stara Zagora received from the Ministry of Environment and Water, a badge of honor and certificate for the fastest passed through evaluation on European project.
