MBGN 90 BY THE OPERATIONAL PROGRAMME “ENVIRONMENT 2007 – 2013” WILL UPGRADE THE WATER SUPPLY INFRASTRUCTURE IN BANSKO

MBGN 90 by the Operational programme “Environment 2007 – 2013” will upgrade the water supply infrastructure in Bansko. On July 18th, 2013 was given start on the project for rehabilitation of water supply and sewerage network and construction of wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in the resort town. According to the Mayor Mr. Georgi Ikonomov the project is incredibly good example of cooperation between state and local authorities, and added that the most important for the implementation of project activities is to work in a good team with everyone involved in this  endeavor. “Given the shortened periods the project, it will be necessary to work overtime and massively on many streets even in the winter. The activity will bring discomfort to residents and guests. Many streets will be dug up as well as sidewalks” said the mayor and apologized to residents and visitors, asking them to show understanding. “As compensation for the dig streets, namely they will have brand new look, repaved and new street lightening” he explained.

By the implementation of the project “Rehabilitation of water supply and sewerage network of Bansko and construction of WWTP” will reduce the losses of drinking water, which currently is about 42%, and thus will improve the water supply services, hygiene and health conditions in the project area. As a result of the newly built WWTP it will discontinue the discharge of dump raw sewage into Glanze River, respectively in the basin of Mesta River and it will raise the living standards in the area.
