Goal

The main project objective is to promote the protection and management of the ecological network of protected areas in Bulgaria under the Biological Diversity Act, part of the European ecological network Natura 2000, through the development and implementation of a unified information system.

Acts

• Analysis of the available resources, developments and capacity in the system of the MEW;
• Development and implementation of an integrated information system for protected areas Natura 2000 ecological network, enabling easy access and updating of the data related to:
  • the boundaries and location of the protected areas in relation to the administrative division of the country and the territorial scope of regional structures of MEW and the other institutions involved in the management of the areas, the imposed administrative arrangements and restrictions of activities within the boundaries of the protected areas;
  • the location, the territorial scope, the characteristics of the plans, the programs, the projects and the investment proposals, subject to evaluation of their compatibility with the object and purpose of the conservation of protected areas under the provisions of Art. 31 of the Biodiversity Act, as well as for the conducted procedures on the compliance evaluation, and
  • the distribution and characteristics of the types habitats and the habitats of species, subject to conservation in Natura 2000 (Annex 1 and 2 of the Biodiversity Act);
• Introduction of the available information for the procedures on the compliance evaluation (CE) and the administrative arrangements and restrictions of the activities in the protected areas;
• Conducting training course for staff from MEW system, for handling the information system for protected areas;
• Measures for information and publicity;
• Audit of the project;
• Management and control of the project implementation.
