Goal

Updating the Rila National Park Management Plan in order to ensure sustainable management, protection and restoration of the park.


Acts

  • Conducting of field surveys and inventories in order to update the existing data for the abiotic factors, the biological characteristics, the infrastructure, the cultural and historical heritage and the social and economical aspects.
  • The available and collected information as a result of the above studies and inventory, shall be analyzed and the actual data will allow proper assessment of the status of the environmental components of the, infrastructure, tourism and services in the park.
  • On the base of the analyses and evaluations will be determined long-term objectives, constraints and potential of the park. Functional zoning of the park will be made and regimes and norms for each zone will be established. The priorities, the programs, the projects and the operational tasks and the work plan for achieving the long term objectives of the park, will be identified, as well as the mechanism for the goals and objectives will be reviewed, according to the Protected areas act (PAA) and the Regulation for developing of management plans for the protected areas and current reporting and controlling the execution of the updated management plan.
  • The GIS system (Geographic Information System) of the park will be updated and completed and it will include: Working out of a number of new layers in the GIS; Supply of specialized hardware and software compatible with the existing equipment for two additional work-places for working with GIS, as well as training of staff; Web-based GIS in the park will be introduced, including developed specialized software and database, linked to other software developments and Internet applications in the system of MEW. Before the system introduction, it will be tested and 15 persons will be trained for work with this specialized software.
  • A number of thematic maps will be generated, based on GIS. A set of technical work cards will be also developed, necessary for the implementation of the programs, projects and activities of the updated management plan.
