Over 57% of the adults have heard about Operational Programme Environment, according to the figures of the National representative survey conducted by ESTAT Agency, ordered by the Ministry of Environment and Water. The purpose of this study is to record the level of awareness and the attitudes of the general public, and to identify information needs and channels regarding the Programme.

The data was made known during the public presentation, held at the Ministry of Environment and Water today. The public awareness on the OPE is among the highest, along with that of the OP Human Resources Development and OP Technical Assistance. The average rate that the general public itself gives for the familiarity with the programme has grown significantly. For the question "How would you rate your knowledge of OPE" the population has rated itself "Poor" (2.24) in 2008, while in 2010 the rating tends to "Good" (3.47).

According to the data, the sensitivity of the population in Bulgaria to the nature matter is growing. The majority of the adult population shows interest in the problems of environment and water (80%). We register an increase of 6 percentage points compared to the end of 2008.

The respondents are explicit that the factor which should be paid the greatest attention to is the air pollution. As a whole, the interest of the population to the environmental issue is growing together with the awareness on the ways for preservation of environment and water resources.

The survey data suggests that the state and municipal institutions should begin implementing more infrastructure projects for which high starting approval and support by the population may be expected.
