The Minister of Environment and Water Nona Karadjova and the Mayor of Razlog Krasimir Borisov will sign the contract for the modernization of the water supply and sewerage system of the town. The event, which will also be attended by the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov, will take place on Saturday, February 26, at 2 pm.

The project for improving the water infrastructure of Razlog is worth BGN 8 million, provided by Operational Programme “Environment” and from the state budget. It foresees the reconstruction of 8 km of old water mains and sewerage and the laying down of 2 km of new pipes.

The modernised network is expected to serve 5,000 citizens, while breakdowns should be reduced by 90%. On completion of construction works in the middle of 2014, the whole population of the town will have a modern water supply and sewerage system connected to the existing waste water treatment plant.

This will be the first contract signed under the procedure, aimed at municipalities with weaker preparation. Such municipalities receive assistance both in the preparation of the projects and their implementation. In this way the time span between the concept and the actual construction is shortened and furthermore it is not necessary to apply under different procedures for the individual project phases. Project proposals for BGN 330 million under the same procedure are expected to be approved shortly for the water supply and sewerage systems of Aitos, Dryanovo, Chirpan, Levski, Radomir, Popovo, Elin Pelin and Smolyan.

The ceremony for signing the contract with Razlog will take place within the framework of a two-day educational seminar for media representatives under Operational Programme “Environment”. On the first day of the event Deputy-Minister Ivelina Vasileva and the Director of OPE Malina Krumova will present the management and progress of the programme. On the second day the Municipality of Razlog will acquaint journalists with its good practices related to EU projects. Then, the contract for the water supply and sewerage system of the town will be signed and finally, Prime Minister Borisov and Minister Karadjova will give a press conference.
